Have you checked out Microsoft Virtual Academy?  There’s a ton of free training just waiting for you.

May 2016 WISSUG meeting

In case you hadn’t noticed, Microsoft has really been highlighting PowerBI lately.  What’s all the fuss, you may ask?  It turns out there’s some pretty cool stuff in there.  Okay, great.  How does it work? Where do I start?    Attend this month’s Chapter meeting and find out.

Putting Power Query and DAX to Work in Power BI    Presented by Dr. Thomas Lane (Solve100.com).

Within the ever expanding product that is called Power BI Microsoft has added two tools for ETL.

One tool used during the extraction and loading process is called Power Query (formally "M") and is applied before the data is loaded in Power BI.

The second tool is called DAX. First used with Power Pivot and Power View, DAX helps you create new information from data already in your model.
We will explore and hopefully exploit these two tools to create better visualizations within Power BI.

Dr. Thomas Lane (Solve100.com) is a BI/DW Consultant at Solve (www.Solve100.com).
He received his Ph.D. in Chemistry, did his post-doctoral study at Marquette University, taught programming and database classes at Marquette University, worked as an instructor for a private teaching firm, worked as a developer, and for the past fourteen years worked with SQL server as DBA, ETL specialist, and Data Architect at various Midwestern companies
