Newsworthy items:

SQL Saturday 2016 – Madison, WI

SQL Saturday is returning to Madison for 2016 on April 9th.  Free SQL Server training.  You read that right, free.  There will also be four separate Pre-Cons (these aren’t free, but they’re good too) on Friday, the 8th covering Azure, Hadoop, Power BI, and Powershell.  Check it out here: http://www.sqlsaturday.com/499/eventhome.aspx

PASS Virtual Chapters: Over two dozen virtual chapters, each focusing on a different area of SQL Server.  Go to http://www.sqlpass.org/ and click on the Join a Virtual Chapter button to view the list and just click to the chapters that interest you.  Have you checked out Microsoft Virtual Academy?  There’s a ton of free training just waiting for you.

February 2016 WISSUG meeting

You’re sitting at your desk, minding your own business when the phone rings.  "Hello, this is [insert your name here] your friendly DBA, how may I be of assistance?" "You’ve got to do something!" says the nearly hysterical voice.  "What seems to be the problem?" you inquire.  "It’s the database – it’s too fast!"

Not lately, you say?  Yeah, me neither.  But maybe, just maybe we can get to that happy place by tackling those pesky queries that do just the opposite.  And Brent Ozar is going to show us how to do just that.

Presentation Preview

What Queries are Killing My Server?    Presented by Brent Ozar (Brent Ozar Unlimited).

You're using Profiler to trace queries, but you feel like you're still missing something. In just one hour, Brent Ozar will show you how to use much better free, easy tools to catch the killer queries lurking in the shadows.

This session is for people who have to make SQL Server go faster - job titles don't matter. If you're a developer, DBA, or consultant, and you're using Profiler, this session is about giving you better, faster, more powerful alternatives. (And still these tools end up being even easier than Profiler - go figure).

Brent Ozar loves to make SQL Server faster and more reliable. He created sp_Blitz® and sp_AskBrent®, and he loves sharing knowledge at BrentOzar.com. He holds a bunch of certifications and awards including the Microsoft MVP award.
