December 2015 WISSUG meeting

A New Hope. By now, you're aware Microsoft has deprecated Profiler.  I know.

But there is another... (Okay, enough Star Wars)

Extended Events is a powerful tool that can provide more details and a finer degree of control.  It can be intimidating to learn a new tool, especially one with lots of knobs and dials to adjust.

Attend the December meeting and you'll be treated to Jes Borland demonstrating how to transition from Profiler to Extended Events and restore order to the galaxy...

Presentation Preview

Moving From Profiler to Extended Events presented by Jes Borland.

For years, SQL Server Profiler and traces were the way we answered the question, "What’s happening on my SQL Server system?"

A new tool has emerged to answer that question with more options, which ultimately gives you more information: Extended Events.

In this session you’ll learn the building blocks of Extended Events sessions.

You’ll see a side-by-side comparison of how to create a trace and a session, and you’ll learn how much more information you gain from the session! You’ll also learn a step-by-step method to convert existing traces to sessions.

After attending this session, you’ll confidently be able to move from Profiler to Extended Events.

Jes Borland is a Senior SQL Engineer with Concurrency and a Microsoft SQL Server MVP.

She holds a programmer/analyst associate in applied science degree, is a Microsoft Certified Professional in SQL Server 2012, and has worked with SQL Server as a developer, report writer, DBA, and consultant. She is a user group president, Tech On Tap founder, and LessThanDot.com blogger. She frequently presents at user groups, SQLSaturdays, and other community events.  She is also an avid runner and chef.
