IMPORTANT!

The Microsoft office building now requires that *everyone* be on a visitor list in order to be admitted to the office.  You must register (see below) for the meeting no later than noon of the Monday before the meeting date.  Thus, for the June meeting, please register by noon on Monday, June 10th.

WISSUG meets in Microsoft’s office in downtown Milwaukee at 11:30 am on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.   The address is: 833 E Michigan Street on the 8th floor.

PASS Summit 2019 04-08 Nov 2019 in Seattle, WA.

Pre-conference sessions have been announced – these tend to fill up quickly.  Many of the regular sessions have been announced as well.  

 

PASS Virtual Groups: Over two dozen (free) virtual groups, focusing on different areas of SQL Server, PowerShell, PowerBI and more.  Go to http://www.pass.org/ and click on the Community tab where you’ll find the Virtual Groups link.

This is a free community-based training site organized by Brent Ozar. The SQL Server community (you) determines the content – thanks, Brent!  Submit, review, rate an abstract at the GroupBy site.

 

Microsoft retired Microsoft Virtual Academy effective 10 June 2019.  It has been replaced with Microsoft Learn.  Checkout the new site.  It’s still free.

Deadlocking for Mere Mortals

While troubleshooting deadlocking in SQL Server has gotten easier in SQL Server, it continues to be a constant source of questions in the forums online. This session will look at the most common deadlocks asked about on the forums, and how to troubleshoot them using the various methods available to DBAs  in SQL Server; including Trace Flags, SQL Trace, Event Notifications, and Extended Events.

 

 

Jonathan Kehayias (SQLSkills.com)

Jonathan is a SQL Server MVP and Microsoft Certified Master. He has presented at multiple conferences including PASS, SQLIntersection, SQLRally, SQLBits, and VMware Open Forum. In addition Jonathan teaches part of the SQLskills Immersion Events on Performance Tuning and on High Availability, and used to teach the SQL Server portion of the Microsoft Certified Master – SharePoint certification for Microsoft. Jonathan is also a Drill Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves, and did a tour of duty in Iraq in 2004. He’s married with two young children who he can often be found goofing off with.
