Microsoft has decided to make Developer Edition freely available.  No, it’s not time-bombed.

All you have to do is join (for free) the Visual Studio Dev Essentials program then download the software.

PASS Virtual Chapters: Over two dozen virtual chapters, each focusing on a different area of SQL Server.  Go to http://www.sqlpass.org/ and click on the Join a Virtual Chapter button to view the list and just click to the chapters that interest you.

Have you checked out Microsoft Virtual Academy?  There’s a ton of free training just waiting for you.

April 2016 WISSUG meeting

There’s more than one way to do most anything in T-SQL, but in many cases, there is a best way.  Sometimes it’s not the most obvious way, either.  In this action-packed presentation, you might just learn the best way to tackle a problem you didn’t even know you had.

Presentation Preview

SQL Server Features That Will Blow Your Mind! Presented by Ed Leighton-Dick, Founder/Principal Consultant (Kingfisher Technologies).

How many lines of code does it take to generate a running total? How would you find a value in the next row of data - without using a cursor or loop? How can you efficiently store rows of data with a lot of optional fields, and how can you quickly find which of those rows have values? And how can you eliminate locking without resorting to dirty reads? SQL Server has answers for all of these questions, and none requires more than a few lines of code. Give me an hour, and I will blow your mind!

Ed Leighton-Dick is a SQL Server performance and architecture expert and Founder/Principal Consultant of Kingfisher Technologies. He is a frequent volunteer with PASS, including roles as regional mentor, chapter leader of I-380 PASS SQL Server User Group, and organizer of SQL Saturday Iowa City. He can often be found teaching sessions at local, regional, and national events, including user groups, SQL Saturday events, Iowa Code Camp, and PASS Summit.
